Waiting an hour at JR Midori no Madoguchi ticket counters in central Tokyo is commonplace.

Option 1 Route (Osaka → Nara/Kobe → Kanazawa → Shirakawa-go → Tokyo)
On The Go Map

Option 1:
– Osaka (including Nara/Kobe)
– Kanazawa (possibly going to Shirakawa)
– Tokyo (Shibuya, Akihabara)
Points to Note and Advice
・Pre-confirmation of event dates for matters of interest
(Example: February Events in Aichi リンク。Events scheduled for 2025 tend to be held in 2026 as well.)
・Taking the express bus from Nagoya is the standard method for individual travelers heading to Shirakawa-go.
Option 2 Route (Tokyo → Nagano/Matsumoto → Kanazawa → Shirakawa-go → Nagoya → Shizuoka → Mount Fuji → Hakone → Tokyo)
On The Go Map

Option 2:
– Tokyo – Nagano/Kanazawa
– Kanazawa/Nagano
– Matsumoto
– Travelling down the mountain path to Nagoya
– Shizuoka – Hakone/Fuji
– Tokyo
Points to Note and Advice
・If you’re only going to Matsumoto in Nagano, no special comments needed.
・If you’re expecting Nagano Station in Nagano, personally I think it’s a place people go for the art museum.
・You can see Mt. Fuji from both Shizuoka and Hakone. If you want to climb it, February is closed season so it’s impossible.
Same as Option 1.
・Check event dates in advance for things you’re interested in.
・If you’re going to Shirakawa-go, taking the express bus from Nagoya is the standard method for individual travelers.
