Tenjō Mountain: Beginners welcome
KODAKARAJIMAThe path to the summit is straightforward. There are many landmarks and signs along the way.
Mount Tenjō, a popular trekking spot, is located almost at the center of Kozushima.
The entire route takes about 6 hours to complete. Allow 7 hours for a leisurely pace.
Mount Tenjō has long been considered a sacred place on the island and is also a Special Protection Zone within the national park, so collecting plants is prohibited.
TOKYO-TOSHIMAThe following is an example hiking route departing the lodge on foot just after 5:00 AM and returning around 10:30 AM. During Ira’s hike, the descent trailhead was blocked by fallen trees, causing a delay that made us miss the bus.
Normally, if you catch the bus, you should be back at the lodge by 10:00 AM, so the round trip from the village takes about 5 hours.
