Part of the 2025 Master Plan draft. Long Island. First discussed based on the 1991 concept plan and announced by the then prime minister at the 2019 National Day Assembly.
What is long?
・Development location
・Scale
・Duration
・Purpose (problems, issues, measures, etc.)
・Limited-time event: Exhibition on creating heat-resistant cities – Guided tour
*The Singapore government’s free exhibition and initiatives are very interesting.
I wrote this because I thought Singapore’s development project would be a good reference point, given Japan’s current lack of measures to deal with the rise in sea levels caused by global warming and its impact on natural islands with human populations. I do not intend to make a simple comparison with Japan, nor do I mean to disparage Japan (one factor is that Japan has more than 200 times as many inhabited islands as Singapore).
development site
off the coast of East Coast Park
Three landfill sites will be created. In addition, the waterfront area and coastal parks will be developed. A recreation area will also be established.

The scent of Long drifted over.

Marina Bay Integrated Resort Development Master Plan(singapore 2005年 株式会社 丹下都市建築設計)
Site area: 122,550.00 m²
Total floor area: 467,300.00 m²
Number of floors: 55 above ground, 2 below ground
Height: 214.60 m

long-term
season
Government: “Decades-long scale”
Technical research will begin in early 2024, and parallel discussions are planned with stakeholders, the general public, and Singaporeans.
If new technologies are developed during construction or promising patents are filed in other countries, will licensing agreements also be considered? Personally, I am curious to know whether the Singapore Intellectual Property Office will provide behind-the-scenes support in this regard (as there is no mention of this anywhere). How will the development order and supervisory responsibilities be recorded in the business consignment contract?

Long development period
Purpose (issues, challenges, countermeasures, etc.)
Sea level rise, coastal protection, flood resilience, water resistance, future development needs
Comprehensive solution for large-scale projects. Not just a simple embankment, but an artificial island that combines design, functionality, and technology. The island is shaped so that it can be crossed in a straight line rather than in a curve.

I wonder where the name Long Island comes from.
Anyway, it gives me the impression of “so long!”

Unlike names such as Ubin Island and Sentosa Island, which are derived from Malay,
this time the name is in English.
