玄海諸島:Genkai-islands
An archipelago scattered across the Genkai Sea surrounding the Higashimatsuura Peninsula in northwestern Saga Prefecture. Following the Heisei-era municipal mergers, all islands now belong to Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture. However, prior to the January 1, 2005 municipal mergers, they belonged to one city and three towns: Karatsu City, Yobuko Town, Chinzei Town, and Hizen Town. Under the Remote Islands Promotion Act, the Genkai Islands refer only to seven of the eight inhabited islands within this area. This excludes Kabeshima Island, connected by the Yobuko Bridge, and the uninhabited islands of Torishima, Takashima, and Usushima. The entire area is designated as Genkai Quasi-National Park.
