・Scheduled ferry service exists, but recently reduced from 4 trips to 3 trips.
Risk of further reduction to 2 trips (originally operated 2 trips)
・Among the 7 inhabited islands of Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture, it is the farthest departure point from Yobuko (see below)

Where’s the boarding point!?
Huh, it’s over two hours away by public transportation from the “boarding point for other islands” in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture!?
It’s over 30 minutes away by car one way. This time it’s okay since we’re renting a car near Karatsu Station, but without a car, it’s a location that makes it tough to carve out time for this island.

It’s about 85 km by car from Saga Airport.

Where the hell is the port parking lot!?
I searched online and checked Google Maps the day before, but couldn’t find any information.
When island hopping, this kind of thing really messes up your schedule on the day. For someone like me doing back-to-back island hopping, missing one island sets off a domino effect on the schedule. It’s super stressful.
I arrived 50 minutes early, but couldn’t find it anywhere.
No choice, so after searching around for a while, I ended up asking a guy walking around the port town.
Man: “You should use the parking lot at that public facility (commonly called ‘the Center’).”
There’s no sign!? How is anyone visiting for the first time supposed to know that!?
This is a one-way street area. Since I was in a kei car, I could still turn back partway, but hitting a dead end on a one-way street on a Japanese island is nerve-wracking—especially since many areas lack streetlights.
In the end, I only had ten minutes before departure. Stressful and gave me a stomachache.
The restroom is apparently next to the Center. Since I couldn’t go back, I decided to use the toilet on Mukojima instead.

The Mukojima settlement has a unique atmosphere worth exploring.
While the town hall staff headed toward the representative’s place, I finished filming and photographing the settlement.
It’s not unique to this island, but when someone speaks, their voice echoes throughout the entire settlement.
Keeping track of their positions, I moved.

The vegetables weren’t being sold…
At the top of the hill, there is a cemetery, a park, and a lighthouse.
The cemetery was the halfway point.
The park was overgrown with weeds. Along the way, a fallen tree blocked the path.
My skin breaks out in hives as soon as I step into grassy areas, and it takes three weeks to clear up, so I didn’t go into the grassy areas this time.

Treasure Island is an actual island in Kagoshima!
The timetable in the lower right corner shows two departures. They’ve increased the number of runs since the old days.
The sign was hidden in the grass.

向島八坂神社:Mukojima Yasaka Shrine
Beyond the long stone staircase next to the abandoned school lies a shrine.
From those stairs, you can see the entrance and hallway of the teachers’ residence.
It’s dark at night, so opening the front door seems scary.
I came directly to the shrine via the path from the park side. So the stairs are for descending only.
